La Meridienne – English

La Méridienne lies at the edge of the hamlet of Le Chêne, in the commune of Gargas, a few kilometres from Apt, in the Petit Luberon.
The landscape opens here without emphasis: hills, light, openness.
Not a place of passage, not a tourist centre — rather a transition between village and nature.

Three houses form the ensemble. Their layout allows for both shared living and independence.
Moments together and retreat are equally possible: three kitchens, four bathrooms, terraces, quieter garden areas, and spaces that leave room to breathe.

A large house forms the open centre: a spacious kitchen, a wide living area, a terrace for shared meals and long evenings.
Alongside it, quieter places — for reading, working, thinking, sleeping.
Living together here is not a necessity, but a choice.

Another house, known as the “Studio”, is set apart and can be used entirely independently.
It works equally well as a place of retreat or as part of the whole.

The garden is part of this structure.
Sculptures stand among lavender, scrubland and the herbs of Provence, unobtrusive, natural.
Inside, this same atmosphere continues: artworks, images, books — traces of an open life that does not need explanation.
Between the houses lies a generous swimming pool.

The place changes noticeably with the seasons.
Summer is intense and bright, winter quiet and reduced, with very little tourism.
In between come the milder months, when the landscape reveals itself: on foot, by bike, along small roads, winding routes and through canyons.

La Méridienne has grown over generations.
Each has added something, without reshaping what was there. This can be felt — without being told.

A place for those who do not confuse calm with isolation.
For artists, families, groups of friends, lovers of culture and nature, and those seeking rest.
For all who understand shared life and retreat as two sides of the same quality.
La Méridienne is a place where the day slows down without losing its fullness — where landscape, way of life and sense of time quietly come together.
